Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Collection 15 eBook Laurell K Hamilton Reviews
When Anita goes to raise a whole grave yard of 200 year old bodies that have been messed up with a bulldozer, she knows something is wrong when she is offered over a million dollars to do the job. Well-written with well-developed characterization by a gifted author. Adult readers due to violence in the book.
I love the Anita Blake series up through this book. It is frustrating as I wanted the love story to go in a different direction but such is life. If you like adult vampire stories that are well-written with exciting story plots. I recommend this series. I read the series in the 90's and decided to read them again so I bought the series 1-6.
I know there has been a lot of discussion from other readers of this series about the emphasis on sex, but, in all honesty, it fits with the type of book that Ms. Hamilton has written. Anita Blake is evolving into something, just don't know what as of yet. Yes, Ms. Hamilton doesn't really need to get so explicit in the sex scenes but it is necessary to described how Anita and her "monsters" are changing. It just needs to be toned down. I have all of the books and have read them in order and have a couple of more to read and I am finding it most interesting how much each character has changed since they were first introduced. The sex needs to be toned down and besides, Anita had sooooo much sex in one book that I don't know know she could walk! Taking on numerous "monsters" that are "well endowed" right after another is a bit much and is hard to swallow (excuse the pun). But I like the story lines very much.
This is about the time in the series that things really start to get wierd. It is still a good story though as Anita and her apprentice take a trip. Anita learns somethings about herself and her abilities that begin to scare her. It is worth the read and leads into the next book in the series. I already own the book in paperback and wanted to buy it hardbound as I have bought the last 7 books that way. I am looking forward to getting the next book in the series- Harlequin.
If you don't mind some erotic scenes and weird otherworld stuff than this is a book (in a series) that I would recommend. It's not your everyday Buffy kind of book. It's better.
I love this series of books. Both my Daughter and I have read the whole series together. I went to the book store to find something to read and the guy in the store said "If you are looking for a good book try this one". He handed me "Guilty Pleasures" (the first book in the series) and I was back the next day for every thing else in the series that was on the shelf. I lent them to my Daughter and she was the same way. She came over and asked me for the next book.
Published and love them still rereading them allows me to find new quotes, new connections, and new themes to enjoy.
Watching Anita deal with her moral quandries, her changing relationships and the development of her powers hold attention firmly.
It did not take me long to read this succulent tale! Thank goodness Ms. Hamilton did not leave me drowning with questions, there were a lot that was answered with Anita and how her powers are growing way beyond comprehension, her softening heart between her wolfe and vampire lovers, and the deeper cognizance into the pasts of both Anita and Jean-Claude.
Bloody Bones starts with her being outsourced to Branson to raise notably aged dead in order to learn the rightful owner of the land to which an exorbitant construction is to take place. While in Branson, the Spook Squad loans her out to the local detectives when several teenagers have been brutally slaughtered. Anita feels that there may be some connection with the faerie owned land, the dead to be raised, and the murders. Later, she realizes her biggest challenge is not only a sword wielding creature and an arduous fey monster, but an omnipotent vampire that also realizes the potential of Anita's necromancy.
In order to get answers, Anita calls upon her sexy vampire lover, Jean-Claude. During Jean-Claude's stay to help his "ma petite" we learn about his and Anita's grief-stricken past, although very different history's, Anita discerns that they share a common ground and maybe, just maybe, Jean-Claude has a heart and soul and a passion that can be truer than any other. Letting her inhibitions go for one second, and we get to see how much she lusts or even loves her libidinous blood sucker. Yum Yum Yum!
I have always loved the Anita Blake books. While they did start getting more "raunchy" as the series went on the characters are so believable you grow attached to them and the storyline and plots keep you turning the pages. I owned all of her books in print format but when I started reading on the iPad app I decided to add her books to my collection. It is so much easier to carry my favorite books with me on my tab than it is to haul a bunch of books around. I'm so glad I added her books to my kindle collection. I just pull out my tablet at night and open the app and it's like curling up with a dear old friend. If you like the series I highly suggest getting the versions even if you already have the books. It makes them so much easier to read whenever the mood strikes.
